As for Alex, he's getting defensive because she didn't tell him specifically not to tell anyone because she didn't want to have to deal with it just yet. So that's why he's mad at her. That being said, if he knew Izzie as well as someone like George does, he would know her well enough to realize how she deals with big things like this and at the very least would have asked her before hand if it was okay to tell the others. But Alex doesn't, IMO. ;)
